Last I heard a full scale invasion from indo on this country we would last 12 minutes with all forces at 100% capacity.......

I am sure though we are doing a good job keeping the likes of MD, Boeing, Bell, Sikorsky to name a few in business for many years to come......

The ARH Tiger isn't much better either. It has been plagued with engine, c of g and air con trouble from the start. #1, 2 and 3 are already in retrofit as #23 Tiger is just delivered to the army.

Back on topic the Sea King was a good machine. Plenty still getting around the place with them being used as fire bombers and lifters in civil roles. Heli-Aust at Bankstown had an S-61 (civil version) for lifting jobs this year.

Default seaking gone but not forgotten

The remaining 6 airframes are to be auctioned off under contract (many other countries are interested in them yes they have many hours on the airframes but its nothing a complete overhaul won't fix don't forget the RAN maintains these aircraft WAY above the required standards for civilian use) one "shark 02" the first to be commissioned is to live its life at Nowra, the current fleet include the Squirrel (to be decommissioned in 2016) the new Bell aircraft (which replaced the Augusta Power retired recently) the MRH 90 (has many problems) many of the faults are being fixed or already have been fixed these aircraft were purchased relatively early in the development phase. I'm glad to reveal that the SeaKing Romeo's that we are purchasing are well and truly proven aircraft and will slot straight into service unlike the flop of a project the Seasprite which was completed and scraped within months because of bad press even though they turned out to be highly capable.

Tiger isn`t plagued with with problems, it`s a young airframe (totally new from the ground up), and highly capable. In the same way as the MRH90, they are new designs, and it takes longer than a political term to mature a new design.
As far as I`m aware the units on the ground really like the platform.
Those of you in the Army would know they have to prove through thorough evaluation what exactly a new asset can and can`t do, and write the rules of engagement for it from scratch and that takes time.
As for C of G issues they all passed the weight and balance check before they flew.
Air-con was a matter of a system coming from European climates, to hovering in Darwin in the summertime. It took a while for an uprated A.C. pack to arrive but that was years ago.
The Tiger retrofit program is no indication of aircraft performance, lack of, or otherwise. It is an agreed part of the contract to assemble these new helicopters, and has a very logical explanation.
Scotty, there are only 22 Tigers.
You have to remember that these new generation aircraft are completely different one that is built on a decades old platform.
Too old for toy helicopters. Full size Vans RV-7 under construction....oh yeah.
